Photographs of Ventnor
Isle of Wight

Ventnor is a picturesque little seaside town on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, UK.

This is the second page of photographs taken in and around the town. (CLICK HERE if you missed the first.) Hopefully these two pages, together with further images and descriptions in our Towns and Villages section and our Best Beaches section, will combine to give you a true picture of this popular and delightful little piece of England.

The Royal Hotel, Ventnor - 4 star luxury. Situated on Belgrave Road opposite the junction with Bath Road - one of two steep roads leading to the Esplanade. The Royal Hotel dates back to Queen Victoria's reign. The queen loved the Isle of Wight and was a frequent visitor.

Bath Road, opposite The Royal Hotel, winds down to the beach.

La Falaise Car Park - situated at the foot of Bath Road. This is the best car park to use if you are visiting the beach. Alternatively there is another near the harbour at the opposite end of the bay which is better for those wishing to avoid hills.

The hugely popular Spyglass Inn is situated in the western corner of the bay. Open 365 days a year - with a large terrace from which one can look out across the bay.

The Picardie Hotel and adjacent Ale and Oyster Inn (formerly the Richmond Hotel) on the Esplanade are wonderful examples of the Victorian buildings that once stretched right across the bay.

One of several cafes dotted along the Esplanade.

Deckchairs and windbreaks are available from Mr Blake's hut.

Mr Blake also hires out his ancient beach huts. Freshly painted each year they are a familiar sight on the beach every summer!

Further along the Esplanade you will find the Gaiety Amusements and, on the ground floor of the new, high-rise Metropole building, you'll find The Met (a new wine bar) and Don Gibblionni's (ice-cream parlour).

The Gaiety Amusements - opened again in 2008 despite talks of closure.

Don Gibblionni's and The Met.

Next to The Metropole lies the ever popular Mill Bay Inn. This pub is now under new management (Summer 2008) and appears to be doing very well, especially with their good-value meals.

Opposite the Mill Bay lies 'The Band Stand' - owned by Southern Water and nothing whatsoever to do with bands! However, there are excellent views to be had from the balconies.

And finally, to bring us full circle, you will find, next to 'The Band Stand', Ventnor Haven - a small harbour primarily for local fishing boats.
