Pictures of Ventnor
Ventnor, located on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, enjoys a sheltered position and relatively mild climate.

High downs protect the town from cold northerly winds

St. Catherine's Church

Belgrave Road, opposite St. Catherine's, affords glorious views over the bay. Note the popular Wellington Hotel on the left hand side at the far end of the road.

Benches in Belgrave Road overlook the beach and Spyglass Inn

The High Street looking towards Church Street

The High Street looking in the opposite direction towards Central Car Park

Central Car Park leads off the High Street just after the Spring Hill turning. It is probably the best to use if you are shopping. If you are visiting the beach you will find car parks at either end of the Esplanade.

Pier Street, taken from the junction with Shore Hill - one of two steep, winding roads down to the Esplanade.

Alexandra Gardens - off Shore Hill - above the Winter Gardens and the new Haven

The Winter Gardens in Shore Hill, above Ventnor Haven - a popular venue for indoor markets, dance, stage and screen events. Also has excellent pub and restaurant run by Perks of Ventnor.

The view from The Winter Gardens, looking across the bay towards Steephill Cove

Ventnor Haven (small harbour) lies below The Winter Gardens at the bottom of Shore Hill. The building on the pier within the harbour is the newly constructed Fishery where you can buy fresh seafood daily.

Cascade Gardens lie opposite the Haven and immediately below the Winter Gardens. Here a natural spring cascades down to the sea through beautifully kept gardens.

This car park lies next to the Haven at the foot of Shore Hill. The children's paddling pool (used in summer months only) is in the shape of the Isle of Wight.

Looking from the Haven walls up to the Winter Gardens, Alexandra Gardens and Hambrough Road. Note the Victorian 'viaduct' which is actually a footpath leading from the Winter Gardens down to the Esplanade.

Please note that
new building work
has completely changed the eastern esplanade. However, the pictures on this page will remain as a reminder of how things used to be.
