Superb, Self Catering
Isle of Wight Holiday Homes

Self catering Isle of Wight holiday homes of a very high standard are to be found in these cleverly converted barns in the village of Niton on the south coast of the island. We visited in November 2008 and were most impressed with the consistently high standard of cleanliness, decor and furnishings.

In total, five superb holiday homes are available, each named after a local monument or personage. They are grouped around a central courtyard (formerly the farmyard) adjacent to the village church. Each has its own terrace and seating area for barbecues; two also have a small rear garden (ideal for dog owners). They are usually let individually, but it is worth noting that, if booked together, the five buildings can accommodate up to 40 guests - ideal for wedding parties or other large gatherings.

PEPPER POT, is the largest of the five holiday homes available and sleeps 10 to 14 people. It is named after St. Catherine's Oratory, a local monument and Britain's second oldest lighthouse which (according to the locals) looks just like a pepper pot!

Dating from the 17th century and now lovingly restored and converted, this superb self-catering holiday home is ideal for a big family, or two or more families wishing to share accommodation.

The ground floor is predominantly open plan with a truly superb kitchen at one end, a large dining table in the centre with space for 20 settings, then a comfortable lounge area with flat-screen TV at the far end. All in all, a great place for everyone to enjoy being together.

Pepper Pot offers two family rooms (one downstairs) plus one double room and one twin room. There is also a sofa-bed in the lounge which can be made into another double bed.

All bedrooms have modern en-suite facilities.

HOYS is next to Pepper Pot and is the second largest holiday home accommodating up to 11 people. We found the accommodation welcoming, beautifully decorated and very well furnished. The ground floor is mainly open-plan with well-equipped kitchen, dining area and spacious lounge with flat-screen TV. One of the three bedrooms (a large double room) is also at ground level.

Upstairs there is a spacious twin room plus a really large family room which can accommodate up to five people - the latter with excellent en-suite facilities.

HERMITAGE lies next to Hoys and, tucked in the corner of the courtyard, is closest to the village church. Built in 1813 this delightful holiday home has a real 'country cottage' feel about it. We just loved the huge farmhouse kitchen and open-plan living area.

Isle of Wight holiday homes: The fabulous kitchen in Hermitage

Hermitage accommodates up to 10 people and, like Hoys and Pepper Pot, offers one double room on the ground floor (very useful for any disabled visitors). On the first floor you will find three more bedrooms (two doubles and one twin).

Hermitage also has its own private garden (ideal for dog owners).

ST. CATHERINES lies opposite Pepper Pot on the other side of the courtyard. This smaller, beautifully presented self-catering holiday home has two double bedrooms (both with en-suite facilities) and can sleep up to six people.

Open-plan interior of St. Catherines

St. Catherines is ideal for two couples wishing to share holiday accommodation. The bedrooms are at opposite ends of the barn, with spacious open-plan living quarters between them.

It also has a private garden (ideal for dog owners).

TENNYSON, the smallest, is the ideal retreat for couples wishing to get away from it all.

Isle of Wight holiday homes: Tennyson

Named after island resident and former poet laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, this dwelling offers very attractive, open-plan living accommodation together with a spacious double bedroom complete with free-standing bath.
