Isle of Wight campsites: Ninham and Waverley Park
NINHAM Country Holidays, Shanklin, PO37 7PL As campsites go, Ninham, takes some beating. It's such a beautiful place. We were truly impressed as we turned off the main A3056 (near Sandown Airport) into the long, sweeping driveway. Rabbits scurried across our path, trees were bursting into blossom, and the birds were in full song.

Isle of Wight campsites: Ninham Country Holidays
Originally a flourishing farm (complete with large duck pond!), Ninham is now devoted to providing superb camping, touring and self-catering holidays. The landscaped paddocks provide very generously sized, level pitches and access is easy for vehicles of all types - including large campervans and American RVs. Both served and non-serviced pitches are available.

On site facilities include a launderette, a games room, a heated swimming pool and toddlers' pool, mountain bike hire and course fishing (in the fabulous pond!).

There are plenty of walks on site and nearby - and if you want the sea, the gorgeous, sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown are just a few minutes drive. As for supplies, you'll be pleased to hear there's a very good Morrison's within walking distance - and a Lidl.
In addition to camping and touring, Ninham also has two centrally heated houses for self catering holidays and six 'leisure homes' (statics). We did not visit these, but no doubt the standards are high.

WAVERLEY PARK Holiday Centre East Cowes (Tel: 01983 293452) Situated in East Cowes, Waverley Park Holiday Centre offers facilities for camping, touring and self catering holidays.
We include it amongst our recommendations because it is the only camping site in East Cowes - and there is obviously a demand for such, especially during Cowes Week!

We noted that the field set aside for camping slopes significantly - so the chances of a level pitch seem remote. On the other hand, according to the company website, new level pitches with grass and hard standing will be ready by peak season this year, 2008.
The view towards Cowes and The Solent from the camping field is lovely, as shown on the following image (hence the popularity of this site during Cowes Week!).
Note also how close the site is to the ferry terminals. (A Red Jet catamaran can be seen in the picture, having just arrived from Southampton.)

In fact, Waverley Park is so close to the Red Funnel ferry terminal you could easily arrive as a foot passenger and walk to the site. No need of a car at all! You've got shops close by, a heated pool on site, entertainment most nights, a children's play area adjacent to the camping field, and even a chain ferry (the floating bridge) across The Medina to West Cowes where you will find many more shops and places of interest. (Foot passengers go free)
