Superb Isle of Wight campsites
for the best camping holidays

In this section we tell you about the Isle of Wight campsites we have personally visited, really like, and thoroughly recommend.

Hopefully, by so doing, we can help you choose the very best site for your camping or touring holiday. The map shows the approximate location of each site.

SOUTHLAND Camping Park, Newchurch, PO36 0LZ (Tel: 01983 865385)
This magnificent touring park has won just about every award in the book - including AA Best Campsite in Southern England, David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award, AND the English Tourism Council's 5 star 'Excellent' rating. It's easy to see why. The whole site is immaculate - even out of season - and the facilities are superb.

Southland welcomes touring caravans and motor homes. There are 120 pitches in total, all very generous in size, and all with electric hook-up.

We particularly liked the hedges and trees that have been planted around the site, breaking it up into smaller areas and giving a feeling of privacy.

We also like the fact that Southland is off the beaten track, so it is lovely and quiet at night.

Despite this, it's within easy walking distance of Newchurch village where you will find The Pointer Inn (voted Dining Pub of the Year 2007), and only three miles by road from the gorgeous sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin which are ideal for children.

On site facilities are excellent - and much effort goes into ensuring that the toilet blocks and showers are kept scrupulously clean.

Other facilities include a fully equipped launderette, a dishwashing room, chemical disposal point, instant freezer pack service, a battery charging service, dog exercise areas, a motorcaravan disposal station - and, of course, a children's play area.

You'll find further details on the official CARAVAN CLUB WEBSITE

GRANGE FARM, Brighstone Bay, PO30 4DA (Tel: 01983 740296)
Grange Farm is the sort of place I would have loved as a child. It's a small, rustic, family run business, with lots of very friendly animals, on the beautiful south-west coast of the island. It appears to be miles from anywhere (but it isn't really!), situated on the western banks of Grange Chine, on land that runs from the main A3055 Military Road right down to the sea at Brighstone Bay.

Grange Farm welcomes campers with tents, caravans and motor homes. The camping fields are level with plenty of electric hook up points, and they extend right up to the cliff edge where you can enjoy fabulous views up and down the wild, rugged, unspoiled coastline. (Families with very young children are offered sites further away!) A walkway leads down, through the chine, to the sandy beach. It's just fabulous!

We particularly liked the onsite shop which stocks everything from buckets and spades to kites and wet-suits, the play area for young children and the well-kept toilet and shower facilities. I also loved the animals! We saw a horse, a donkey, llamas, alpacas, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys - and even two water buffalo! All in superb condition and all perfectly accustomed to visitors.

Some of the original farm buildings at Grange Farm have been converted into superb, well-equipped, self-catering holiday homes. Additionally, there are 13 static caravans here, overlooking the beach, four of which are centrally heated.
