Let's consider Hovertravel

Traveling with Hovertravel is the quickest means of crossing The Solent to the Isle of Wight.

From the time the hovercraft leaves the mainland shores at Southsea, it takes just under ten minutes to arrive on the beach at Ryde.

The hovercraft service is an alternative to Wightlink's FastCat and is ideal for holiday foot passengers traveling by train from Waterloo.

To reach the hover port, alight at Portsmouth and Southsea station, then follow the arrow signs directing you to the 'Hoverbus'. The Hoverbus then transports you quickly to the Southsea terminal.

Hovercraft leave Southsea every half hour. The journey takes just under ten minutes. The return journey is similar with hovercraft leaving the Ryde terminal every half hour. (Usually it is the same vehicle making the return trip!)

The hovercraft service is also popular with commuters and those arriving for a day visit. There is a large car park at Southsea where you can park all day for £10 then pop over on the hover.

However, please note: if there are more than two people traveling, it's usually cheaper to take the car over!
